Popularity of wireless connection is growing day by day and the risk to the users has also increased. There are numerous features which has increased the popularity of Wi-Fi. But, It is important for the users to secure their devices properly in order to prevent information hacking. Here are some important things which you need to know when opting for a Wi-Fi connection.
Type of internet connection and speed
Know the type of connection that has been used in your area or premises. Usually, some Dial-up connections are slow when compared to other connections like ADSL, which has split its phone connection to two sections – one to carry internet data and the other for calls. However, you can opt for a broadband speed test to evaluate the speed of your connection. This allows you to get the right Wi-Fi router to suit the specifications of your connection and is compatible with it.
Security
Wireless networks are less secure than the wired-connections. With wireless connection you will be continuously broadcasting messages to anyone who has a receiver. And you do not have any options to control such things. In wired connection the data is transferred through cabling and getting that data is quite difficult.
Multiple devices
Wi-Fi allows you to connect with the internet on any number of devices within the limited area provided there is signal; it is not limited to laptops and PC’s. You can even connect to the internet on your mobile using Wi-Fi connection. Currently, you are able to access Wi-Fi on your phone, tablet, computer, Apple TV and a digital camera with Eye-Fi.
Wi-Fi encryption
Wi-Fi encryption protocols are able to protect the data only when it travels from the device to the Wi-Fi access point. But once the data reaches the access point it is not provided with any kind of security. So, to provide security at higher levels you can use security protocols like TLS (transport layer) protocol or SSH (secure shell) protocol.
Avoid devices that emit wireless signals
Ensure that the router is placed away from any device that generates inductive flux and wireless EM frequencies. Microwaves and wireless telephones emit similar frequencies as the router. If your router is placed near these devices then this could lead to disastrous effects on your Wi-Fi signals.
Wi-Fi connection has both advantages and disadvantages. So, consider all these advantages and disadvantages before getting one.

Speed issues, security concerns and mishaps (connection drops etc) all disappear when wired, only downside is running a cable through the house ;p but well wort it! Nice article
